Basic Strokework Worksheet Pack (Item #1011)
14” tall x 11” wide wood plaque
Brush Basin or container for water
Paper towels
Foam plate
Fine grit sandpaper

Surface Preparation:

1. If needed, lightly sand raw wood surface to smooth any rough spots.

2. Load 3/4” Flat Brush with AP Yellow Ochre, AP Yellow Light and a touch of AP Burnt Sienna. Apply background color by “slip slapping” the flat brush across the surface in different directions. Allow to dry.

Painting Instructions:

1. Pot – Refer to the Flower Petals Worksheet (1011AWKSHT0 for brush stroke practice before painting. Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with AP Burnt Sienna and Magenta. Blend on the palette to soften the color. Add a touch of AP Burnt Umber to the AP Burnt Sienna side of the brush.

2. Begin painting the pot similar to painting a pumpkin, keep the flat brush flat and paint the left and right sides first painting large “C” strokes keeping the brown side of the brush to the outside of the pot.

3. Fill in the middle of the pot again keeping the flat brush flat.

4. Leaves – Refer to Leaf Strokes Worksheet (1011BWKSHT) for brush stroke practice before painting directly on your project. Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Thicket and AP Yellow Light. Blend on the palette to soften the color. You may choose to add a touch of AP Burnt Sienna to the green side of the double loaded brush. Paint elongated basic One Stroke leaves. Beginning on the chisel edge of the brush at the opening of the pot, touch the surface, apply pressure, pull long strokes and lift back to the chisel edge of the brush creating the tip of the leaf.

5. Calla Lilies – Refer to the Flower Petals Worksheet (1011AWKSHT) for brush stroke practice before painting. Double load the 3/4" Flat Brush with Wicker White and AP Yellow Ochre. Blend on the palette to soften the color. Begin at the base of the lily; paint a “U” shape keeping the AP Yellow Ochre to the bottom of the stroke.

6. Keeping Wicker White to the top of the stroke, begin at the tip and pant down to the base. Paint both sides of the opening. Fill in the center.

7. Calla Lily Stamen – Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with AP Yellow Light and AP Yellow Ochre. Blend on the palette; tap the color on using the chisel edge of the brush creating the cone shaped stamen.

8. Calla Lily Stems – Double load the No. 12 Flat Brush with Fresh Foliage and Thicket. Blend and paint long slightly curved stems attaching the calla lily flower to the bouquet.

Finishing Touches –

1. Side load the No. 12 Flat Brush with AP Burnt Umber; paint a shadow around the bouquet, leaves, and right side of the pot.

2. Still painting with the same brush, paint a base under the pot.

3. Don’t forget to sign your name in the color desired with thinned paint using the No. 2 Script Liner Brush.

4. When dry if desired, apply a couple coats of brush-on waterbase varnish or spray sealer in sheen of your choice. Enjoy!
